At 7 pm President Wershow brought meeting to order. Stewart presented the slate of officers for the coming year as there was a quorum present: President Stewart Wershow, vice president Matthew Peterson, secretary Stephanie Mehlenbacher, treasurer Kathi Tucker. Laurie made a motion to approve slate. Tammy seconded the motion. The slate of officers was approved unanimously. Next, Attendees introduced themselves.
Stewart asked that members look at the association website and give him feedback on things they would like to see on the website. The association Executive board met in August and voted to have October 9 meeting at boys and girls club. We will hopefully get a tour of the new facility.
TSP draft will come out in next few days. Stewart will send out to everyone. Please read because there are elements of the plan that affect our area such as removal of parking on Garfield and Highland.
Public safety fee is in the process of getting approval. Fee will be added to utility bill. City needs new 911 district and that will be on a future ballot.
Members concerns----school buses still going down Dixon. Others have brought this up in the last few days. Some buses are going through the LP property and exiting on Circle. Many buses going through neighborhood are not those carrying LPMS students. Transportation coordinator at district is in charge of all buses.
Parking removal from Garfield is listed as part of TSP draft plan. Doing this will force parking on to side streets. Tomorrow night school district will choose architect for school projects.
Vandalism at garfield community garden continues to happen. This has been ongoing. Theft at church garden of produce and hoses is also occurring.
TSP will remove parking from Garfield and Highland. Charter amendment can only be changed by voters not by council. Send Stewart an email if there is a problem. City considering doing a parking study. Leaf collection and trash collection become problems with buffeted bike lanes. Why not ticket bicyclists who are breaking the law?
People see the parking issue differently.. If city had talked to people first, there would have been a compromise..
This is a safe routes area. But kids riding to school are not safe. Parents driving kids to school are making kids on bikes unsafe because of poor drivers.
Transit system is not adequate. Otherwise, people would use public transportation.
TSP would have been nice to have all this stuff laid out. Maybe in the paper?
The purpose of the Association is to get information out to people.
Next meeting is October 9. After that next meeting is January. In January we will have a new council.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:30.
